World Of Wine

Located in the heart of the historic area of Porto on the South bank of the River Douro, The World of Wine is to become a world-class visitor experience, occupying more than 30,000 m2 in total.

Responsible for funding the project is The Fladgate Partnership, the company behind some of the oldest port houses including Taylor’s and Croft. Their specialist consulting team have an extensive breadth of both industry and academic experience; these skills have proved pivotal in formulating the underlying guest experiences the guests will encounter. The total investment is projected to be between 80 million and 100 million Euros with the construction alone creating 150 Jobs but more the more permanent legacy will be the creation of 350 direct jobs in the project.

The huge site will encompass a collection of 4 main thematic ‘experiences’ including a museum of the history of Porto, a wine museum, a museum on the cork industry and a fashion and design museum that will celebrate the textile industry of northern Portugal.

Restaurants, shops, learning experiences and a wine bar will also be nestled amongst and around the 300-year old warehouses that were formally used to bottle Port.

With estimated attraction figures exceeding 1 million visitors annually the World of Wine opening in 2020 is set to become the must-see attraction that will establish Porto as the Portuguese capital of wine.

Scruffy Dog have been tasked to curate and bring The Fladgate Partnership’s inspiring proposals and visions to life.

Joe Bright, Scruffy Dog’s Founder and creative director is responsible for the fresh approach and unique design proposals that are to feature throughout the World of Wine as the main creative lead working on this project.

The approach will be to provide a layered experience that can offer something to all visitors. It will be an experience for all that will help boast the rich heritage of Portugal.

The main focus when leaving the centre is that visitors return. The aim is to create a museum that is engaging, interactive and fun, all whilst maintaining its culture and heritage, which in turn will educate and engage the visitor.
