Making words come to life for a school in Liverpool.
We always aim to bring an idea to life, or in this case bring a fairy tale to life! One of our most recent projects was an ambitious and exciting brief; to design and build an imaginative reading space to inspire and encourage the younger generation.
New Park primary school, based in Liverpool, approached Scruffy Dog to help create a welcoming and magical environment for children to pick up a book and read within their shiny new library. This was our moment to be the protagonist to this story!
The design team generated many magical ideas of how they could bring words to life and find a connection between a child and their book. Perhaps some of them used their inner child to help with this one! With the design conjured up, our in-house sculptors set to work straight away!
However our heroic moment in this tale came when the great, old book, was placed on top of the structure, with the open pages quoting the famous, fable introduction “Once upon a time in a land far, far away”. We added a sparkle of magic to these words by illuminating them from the page. We truly brought the words to life!
Adding the finishing touches to the leather bound books and tree trunks…the design had finally jumped off the page into reality!
The production team spent the day assembling the enchanted, reading fortress and it looked spectacular. Fantasy became reality with this project and brought the library a new sense of tranquillity and creativity. The children can now sit and comfortably read a book, or gaze at the illuminated words on the pages above them.
And so this project came to a triumphant end, with a lot of happy children enjoying the enchanting, reading area. Scruffy Dog left Liverpool as a hero and New Park primary school lived happily ever after…
